Massage and you! (And me, of course)
Hi everyone! My name is Amy Millsap, and I'm a massage therapist at the Lifespa in Allen, TX. I am 29 years old, and I have been working as a massage therapist for 5 years now. In my time as a therapist, I have gained experience in many fields, some of them being swedish massage, deep tissue therapy, hot stone massage, pregnancy massage, body scrubs, seaweed body wraps, and more! During the course of this blog I hope to address a weekly subject, as well as shed some light on certain tools that are used to make your massage therapy sessions work better and longer for you. These tools can be anything from hot and cold packs, foam rollers, and even simple stretching exercises. Being said, my first weekly topic is "Making massage work for YOU". Working out can be great for your body, as we all know. But did you know that everytime you get a great workout in, you are tearing and ripping important muscle tissue? Rest and time heal these muscle tears, but massage is the absolute BEST way to keep your muscles strong and healthy. Unfortunately, in an economic crises such as the one we are in, people often view massage therapy as a frivolity, something they can "put off" until their money issues are solved. This, however is incorrect. Massage is absolutely vital to your physical, and even your mental health! Your body harbors toxins that are harmful to your body, and therefore to your mental health. Getting a massage breaks up these toxins and disperses them, leaving your body happy and healthy. It is also a great way to relax and release the stress that we all feel from time to time. I hope that this blog has been helpful, and I look forward to talking to you next week on our next subject, "healing headaches"! If you guys have any ideas about future topics, feel free to let me know! -Amy
